Removing Wrinkles

You will be amazed at how easy it is to take 10 to 20 years off of someone's face. This can be done without ever changing a single pixel on the original image. To remove the wrinkles from a photo of a person's face, follow the steps below:

Copy this png file to your student folder. Leave it in png format.
Zoom in a bit to get a better look at the wrinkles. Double-click the Lasso selection tool and, in the tool's Option tab, select Feather and a value of 1. Draw a selection around the wrinkles near the left eye. Don't get too close to the eye.
Hold down the Shift key and, with the Lasso tool, continue to select any area on the woman's face that is showing age; for exxmple, between the eyes, near the right eye, large areas on both sides of the mouth, a bit above the upper lip, and the neck area (see the image below).

With the selections made, choose Edit>Copy. Add a new layer by clicking the yellow folder at the bottom of the Layers panel.
Be sure the second layer is selected and choose edit>Paste. The reason you pasted the selections is so that any changes made to the selections will not affect the original image. Click the eye icon next to the Background layer to turn it off. This looks quite odd, but this is all that will be affected by the next change. Click the eye icon back on.
With the second layer still selected, choose Xtras>Blur>Gaussian Blur, enter "4.5," and click OK.
The results are much better, but you can try to remove even more wrinkles. Make new selections around the eyes and any other wrinkled areas that didn't quite get removed. Copy, add a new layer, and paste.
You can see that the adjustment made is a bit too much, because some of the texture of the skin has been lost, and it's obvious that a touchup has been made. To fix that, simply lower the opacity of the last layer with the most recent changes. In the Layers panel, change 100 to 50 percent (far top-left corner).
One more alteration was made; this woman's teeth are far too yellow. With the Lasso selection tool (Feather of 1 still selected), go around the teeth, top and bottom. Choose Xtras>Adjust Colors>Hue and Saturation and set the Lightness to 30. Be sure the Hue and Saturation are both at 0 or you will really get some funny-looking teeth. Click OK.
Deselect the teeth (Ctrl + D) and you are done; the results are shown below:
