Grading Rubric

You will create a game show showcasing questions from one of your core classes. Your homework for this project will be to make up nine questions for your audience to answer. You will have your core teacher check your questions and answers. This should be done outside of class and be completed in a timely fashion. Since this will be a homework grade make sure that you show me your completed questions and answers along with your core teachers signature.

Setting up the slide show

Open PowerPoint. The first thing you want to do is create a title slide. Make sure the task pane is open by clicking View > Task Pane:

Task Pane

At the task pane choose slide layout:

Slide Layout

Choose Title Slide to format the slide to have two text boxes. In the first text box type "Welcome to.." and the second text box type "A Game of X's and O's. You will need to move your top text box to the top of the slide and the bottom text box to the bottom of your slide to make room for you WordArt. Then click on the Insert WordArt icon on the Drawing Toolbar and type "Hollywood Squares."

Insert WordArt

Next you will choose a design template or a solid color for the background of your slide. To choose a design template, at the task pane choose Design Template to open the a variety of choices to choose from.

Design Template

Your title slide should look like the one below:

Welcome to

Next we will add transitions to the text and WordArt. At the task pane select Custom Animation:

Custom Animation

Click on the top text box (Welcome to...) and click on Add Effect

Add Effect

You have four different categories to choose from, entrance, emphasis, exit, and motion. Click on the arrow to see your choices. If you don't like the animation simply get rid of it by clicking the Remove button at the Custom Animation Task Pane.

Remove Animation

Notice the other options available for the animation that you chose. You can modify the start, direction, and speed of your animation. Play around with these settings until you get the look you want.

Continue to add animation to your WordArt and your bottom text box.

Next you will insert a new slide. At the top of your document window click the new slide button to add a new slide to your presentation.

New Slide

On this new slide we are going to create the host slide. This can be a cartoon character or a real live person. Depending on how you are going to layout your slide will determine what type of slide layout you will use. To add a picture to a slide either import it from a camera or right click on a picture found on the Internet and choose Save picture and save it to your student folder. Then click on Insert from the Standard Toolbar > Picture > From file.

Insert Picture

I am using Mr. V as an example of a real live person. Somewhere on this slide you need to include "Created by: Your Name." Your slide should look like the one below but with the addition of your name:

Host

Add animations to this slide the same way you applied animations to your title slide.
