Document Content and Tags
An HTML document has two elements: document content and tags.
Document content are those parts of the document that you want the user to see,
such as text and graphics. Tags are the HTML codes that indicate the document
content.
To start creating an HTML file:
- Open a text editor on your system , and start a new document. You will
use Notepad or WordPad as your text editor, located under accessories in your
program listings. (I prefer Notepad.)
- Type the following lines of code into your document. Press enter after
each line and indent where applicable to keep your document in a more organized
fashion.

- Save this document as nameofyourcompany.html in your student folder, but do
not exit your text editor. Make sure you do not save the file as a text document.
First select File > Save As:

- Save the file as type, All Files=(*.*):

- Assign it a name and add the html extension to the
file name. For example olivesareus.html:

- Open a browser, either Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer.
- Click on file on the standard toolbar and choose open or open page.
- Click browse and navigate to your student folder.
- Double click nameofyourcompany.html. You will notice that you have a
blank page and your title is displayed on the blue title bar at the top of
the page. Name of Your Company is the document content, while what you don't
see are your HTML tags. If you see "Name of Your Company" on the blue title bar instead of your company name, you did not replace the text as shown below:

Now that the basic structure of the company's page is set, you will now
start filling in the details. You need to enter the title of the company at
the top of the page. You can do this in two ways. One is by using header levels (one
being the largest and six being the smallest) and the other is by font size. For this exercise
you will use header levels to manipulate the size of your text. You also want to
align the text to center of the page.
