Click the IPhoto icon
on the system tray to open IPhoto.

Import Photos from a Digital Camera
- Turn on your Mac and then use a USB or FireWire cable to connect your camera to your Mac.
- Turn on your camera and make sure it’s in playback or view mode. Notice how iPhoto opens automatically.
- Select your camera in the iPhoto Source list.
- To help with organizing the photos in your library, enter a name and description that will help you identify the photos you are about to import. If you want iPhoto to clear the pictures on your camera as part of the import process, select the “Delete items from camera after importing” option at the bottom of the import window.
- When you’re ready, click the Import button. Watch as your photos are imported into iPhoto. When it is finished importing, iPhoto takes you to the library, so you can preview and organize your photos.
- After you finish importing your photos, click the Eject button or drag the camera’s icon from the Finder desktop to the Trash (if necessary), turn off your camera, and then disconnect it from your computer.

Import Photos from a a Jump/Flash Drive or CD
- Click File> Import to Library.

- Select where your pictures are stored by clicking on it.

- Select the pictures you want to include. How to select photos to import:
- Hold down the Shift key down to select pictures that are adjacent.
- Click on one of the photos and then click Command (Apple) + A to select all the photos.
- Hold down the Command (Apple) and click on photos that are not adjacent.
- Click the Import button to import the pictures into IPhoto.
- Use the resize control in the lower-right corner to make your images smaller or larger in the photo viewing area.

- Double-click a photo to switch to edit view. Here you can rotate, crop, enhance, remove red-eye, retouch, and add effects and adjustments.

- Click Done to return to your photos.

- Select a photo, and then click the Full screen button to view your photo full-screen. Switch to another photo in your Library by selecting a different photo from the thumbnails at the top of the screen.

- Click the Esc button to return to the photo library.
- If you want to view your photos by roll, go to the View menu and select Film Rolls. Film Rolls are created when you connect your camera to the computer. Each time you download your photos, it will ask you to assign the roll a name. You can also display your photo's title, keywords, and rating by selecting Title, Keywords, or My Rating from View menu. We'll learn how to set each of these items later.

Edit Your Photos
Crop a photo
- Select a photo to crop from your photo library.
- Click the Edit button below the photo viewing area.

- Choose the dimensions for your photo from the Constrain pop-up menu. For example, if you plan to include the photo in a photo book, you can choose "4 x 3 (Book, DVD)."

- You can also choose None and select the crop area freely. Notice how iPhoto shows you the area of the photo that will be cropped. If you don’t like the crop area, click outside the cropped area and then place the pointer where you want the cropped photo to begin.
- To move the cropped area, place the pointer inside the cropped area and drag back and forth until it is positioned exactly where you want it. Drag the pointer diagonally to select the crop area. Notice that if you’ve set a size constraint, you can select only the part of the photo that will fit in the size you specified.
- When you are ready, click the Crop button, which is next to the Constrain pop-up menu.

- When you’re done, you can save your changes by clicking the Done button.
Retouch photo defects and enhance colors automatically In iPhoto
- Select a photo from your library. Click the Edit button. Click the Retouch button. Move your mouse over the photo, and notice the crosshair pointer appear. Position the crosshair pointer over the mark you want to remove, hold down the mouse, and then drag in short strokes to blend the mark into its surrounding colors.
- If you have a photo that has re-eye, click the Red-eye button, position your mouse over the eye that needs to be fixed, and then click the eye.
- Now choose a photo that needs to be enhanced. For example, maybe you have a photo that is too dark, too bright, or is a scanned photo that became faded over time. Click the Enhance button. When you’re done, you can save your changes by clicking the Done button.

One click editing effects
- Use the effects panel to modify a photo In iPhoto
- Select a photo to edit from your photo library.
- Click the Edit button below the photo viewing area.
- Click the Effects button to open the Effects panel.

- Select one or more of the effects you want. If you want to undo any of the effects you applied, click Current in the middle of the Effects panel. Click Done to save your changes.

Using the adjust panel
- To manually adjust a photo Select the photo you would like to change, and click the Edit button.
- Click the Adjust button to open the Adjust panel.

- You can adjust any of these settings: Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Temperature, Tint, Sharpness, Straighten, Exposure, and Levels.

- Return your photo to its original state by clicking the Reset Sliders button. When you’re done, you can save your changes by clicking the Done button.

Organize Photos
Creating albums allows you to organize photos from the different rolls you imported. This comes in handy when you want to create slideshows, calendars, or other projects.
- While in library view
, click File menu > New Album.

- In the sheet that appears, choose Album from the pop-up menu. Type a name for your album, and then click Create.

- Your new album appears in the iPhoto Source list. Select a photo in your photo library, and then drag it to the new album’s icon.
- Continue adding photos to your new album.
- Click the album icon to view the photos in your album.
- To see all the photos in your photo library again, click the Library icon
.
- Another way to create an album is to simply drag a group of photos in your library to an empty space in your Source list.

- An album will be automatically created. Double-click the album to change the name.
Add ratings, titles, and comments
- To change the title of the image, click the Information icon at the bottom of the page. The information pane will appear. Click on the image’s title, and set a new title for the image.
- To add a comment to the image, click on the Comments area in the Information pane, and add your comments.
- Change the rating by clicking a ranking dot according to the number of stars you wish to assign.
- To turn off the information, click the Information icon at the bottom of the page again.

Create a Smart Album
- Choose New Smart Album from the File menu.

- Type a name for your album in the "Smart Album name" field. To have iPhoto add photos that match specific criteria, make a selection from the pop-up menus.

- To add or edit criteria of your smart album, select the smart album, then click File > Edit Smart Album.

- To add additional matching criteria, click the Add button. Click OK. Any photos that match the criteria you set, now appear in your Smart Album.

Assign and create keywords to search for your photos In iPhoto
- Click the Library icon and then select which photos you want to assign keywords to.
- From the Photos menu, choose Get info.

- Click the Keywords tab shown in blue below.
- From the Keywords tab, click the checkbox next to the keyword you would like to assign to your photo. You can also assign multiple keywords by checking multiple boxes.

- To create your own keywords, open iPhoto Preferences.

- Select Keywords and click the + button. Notice that the word "untitled" appears highlighted.

- Simply type your new keyword. Now you can assign this keyword to your photos.
- To browse your photos for keywords, click the Keywords button on the bottom of the iPhoto window.

- The Keywords pane will appear and you can click on the keywords you want to display.

- When you are done browsing, click the Reset button to view all of your photos.

- To search for keywords, type the keyword in the Search field, and press the Return key.

- All photos with that keyword will be displayed.
- To display all photos after you’ve finished searching, click the Reset button in the Search field.

Creating a Slide Show
Use your photos to create a slideshow set to music In iPhoto
- Click Library, and then select individual photos or an album of photos to use as your slideshow.
- Rename the slide show by double clicking the slideshow title and typing in a new name.
- Click the Slideshow button in Toolbar. You will be brought to the Slideshow settings window.

- This will place you in the Slideshow Setting Window.
- Click the Music button to open the music dialog box.

- Select the music you would like to play during the slideshow, and make sure the "Play music during slideshow" checkbox is selected.

- Click the OK button, and either click the Preview button to preview the slideshow in the main window, or click the Play button to play the slideshow in full screen.
- Press the mouse button at any time to stop the slideshow. Press the spacebar to pause and then resume the slideshow.
- Click the settings button.

- This will bring up the Slideshow setting options. This will make changes for your entire slideshow at one time.

- You can change the duration the slides appear in the slideshow, change transitions between slides, and how the music will play in your show. Also, you can decide whether you want your slideshow to repeat, whether to apply a ken burns effect, or whether to show titles and ratings of your photos.
- Click the Adjust button to make changes to individual slides.

- This will bring up the Adjust setting box where you make changes to one slide at a time.

- To share your slide show you can export is as a quick time move.

- At the save movies dialog box give it a name, browse to the folder where you want to save it, and decide the size of the movie and the movie size drop down list.

Back up Photos to CD/DVD
Copy your photo library to a CD or DVD
- Select your Library, roll, album, or individual photos you want to burn to a disc.
- Click the Share menu, and choose Burn.

- Insert a blank CD or DVD into your drive.
- Name your disc.
- Click the Burn button in the Burn Disc window.

Print Your Photos
Adjust your print settings and print your photos In iPhoto select individual photos or an album of photos you want to print.
- From the File menu, choose Print, and then make sure you choose the correct printer from the Printer pop-up menu.
- Choose a print setting from the Presets pop-up menu, such as Photo on Plain Paper or Photo on Photo Paper - Fine. An option that includes the word "Fine" will produce higher quality prints.
- Choose a template from the Style pop-up menu, such as Greeting Card or Standard Prints. Choose additional options based on the template you chose. Notice that the preview area shows you how your photos will look when you print them.
- When you’re happy with the print choices you’ve made, enter the number of copies you want to print, and then click Print.
