The Storm of 1928 |
The unnamed storm of September 1928 marked my life. Everything was destroyed. My house, along with many others, was broken into pieces. |
Buildings and stores were now on the floor. All that was left was boards of wood. |
Nobody had a home where to live. Many people drowned from the flood like my mother, father, and my brother. The survivors, like me, had no place to go. |
Trucks were floating in the water. We used boats to move around. |
My father, brother, and many other dead bodies were stacked up in coffins. Some bodies were burned, and some were never found, like my mother. |
The coffins were put into trucks once the water was gone. The trucks took the bodies to cemeteries all over palm beach county. |
After the hurricane had passed and the bodies were gone they started building new houses to live in. |
A statue was built in Belle Glade in memory of the unnamed storm of 1928. |
