Insert Bookmarks

A bookmark identifies a location or a selection of text that you name and identify for future reference. For example, you might use a bookmark to identify text that you want to revise at a later time. Instead of scrolling through the document to locate the text, you can go to it by using the Bookmark dialog box. In this activity you will bookmark each heading 2 title in the document so that it will link back to the titles that appears on the first page of the document, the page that does not include a page number.

Select the heading 2 title text on page numbered 1, page 2 of document.

With the Insert tab selected click Bookmark in the links section.

AT the Bookmark dialog box assign this selection with the name Page1. Click the Add button to add the name to the Bookmark gallery.

Continue adding bookmarks to the remainder of the heading 2 titles on pages 2-20 with the names Page2, Page3, Page4, etc. The name should coincide with the page number, example Page1 should be the heading 2 title on page 1 and so on. You should have 20 bookmarks in all when complete.

Create a Hyperlink to Bookmark

Navigate back to the first page of the document, the one that does not contain a page number but all the heading 2 titles. Select the text "Behave professionally."

With the text selected click the Hyperlink button on the Insert tab. At the Insert

At the Insert Hyperlink dialog box first click the Bookmark button. This will open the Bookmarks dialog box. Select Page1 then click OK.

Notice the Address text box shows #Page1. This tells you the link is located within the document. Click OK to apply the hyperlink.

Check Hyperlinks

Go to first page that contains all the heading 2 titles of your document. Click on each of the hyperlinks while holding down your Ctrl key to make sure that the hyperlink goes to page 1, Behave professionally heading 2 along with its paragraph. Once you have checked out your hyperlink when you return to the top page in the document you will notice that your text appears purple with an underline, showing it is a hyperlink text.
