Downloading and Inserting the Employee Handbook Pages with Section Breaks

Download Text Files

After reviewing your comments form your region managers you have decided to create an Employee Handbook that will cover the issues that are going on in your region businesses. Your booklet will have a cover page, a table of contents page, and page numbering utilizing section breaks and word styles.

For this activity you will need to download several text files that are contained in a zip folder called employee_handbook. You will need to save it to your student folder. Click the link below to unzip then open the folder. Once you have unzipped the documents save them to your My Business student folder. If you need a refresher on how to do that click here.

Overview

Insert Section Break Instead of Page Breaks

When you add a new section of the employee handbook, you want it to begin on a new page. To do this, you can add breaks. You are already familiar with page breaks from a previous activity. There are two types of breaks, page breaks and section breaks. Section breaks allow you to format things like headers and footers differently. For example, you don't want headers on pages with a title, but you do want them on other pages. Section breaks are ideal for this. If you didn't have them, each page would have the same header.

Place your cursor under the last paragraph of the page.

Click on the Page Layout tab and locate the Page Setup panel and select the Breaks item then select Section Breaks > Next Page.

Section Break

You should now be on page 2. Insert the pages in the following order followed by a section break after each. You have already inserted the first document so you should now move the the one numbered 2. You do now need to insert a section page break after inserting the last document. You should have 7 pages in all.
