Halftone Text Filter

New document 700 X 500 with 72 resolution with a white background. The name I assigned is something similar to what I am working on. In this particular document I am going to create the text "Technology Resources."

New Document

Select a foreground color for you text. I selected a dark blue:

Select the Text Tool Text Tool and set the text options on the options panel. I used the settings below:

Type out some text. I typed out the words "Technology Resources." Click on the move tool Move Tool and resize the image to your liking. Once you have it the way you want it click the green check to accept the changes.

Click the apply effects button on the Artwork and Effects palette. Apply Effects.

Add a Bevel to the text by dropping down the menu and selcecting bevel.

I choose a simple emboss.

Pick a background color that will compliment your text. I choose pink shown below:

Create a new layer by clicking the new layer icon in the layers palette:

Fill this layer with the foreground color. Your layers palette should look like this:

Add a filter to this layer Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern.

Set the settings to Size 3, Contrast 50, Pattern Type Line.

Clip mask this layer with the text layer by holding down the Alt while clicking between the fill layer and the text layer.

Now your text should take on the halftone pattern.

Technology Resources

Create new layer and drag it to the top of the layer palette. Alt click between the top layer and the layer below it to move it to the left. Your layers palette should look like this:

Click back on the text layer, Technology Resources, then select the magic wand tool. While holding down the Shift key select all the letters in the words. Your text should now look like this:

Now we want to save this selction. Choose Select > Save Selection:

At the save selection dialog box give it a name. I used technology resources:

Deselect the selection (Ctrl + D).

Click back on the new layer you created. Make sure it is at the top of the layers palette. Now we want to load the saved selection onto this layer. Click Select > Load Selection.

At the load selection dialog box, select technology resources and new selection for the operation:

Click OK to close the Load Selection dialog box. Your selectin is now on this new layer even though you don't see anything but marching ants around the text.

Choose a different foreground color which will be for your outline or stroke on your text. I choose yellow:

Select Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection.

Give it a 3-4 stroke and select center.

Add a new layer. Drag this layer below the stroke layer.

To add another stroke to the slection, load the selection again on this new layer. Select Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection. Select another foreground color then click Edit > Edit > Stroke (Outline) Selection.

Deselect the selections. Add an emboss to the stroke.
