These are the pictures we will use as pattern fills. Copy each picture by right clicking on the picture and select copy, then return to Elements and select File > New > Image from Clipboard:

House Color Widow Color
Beige Stucco
Yellow Stained Glass

Wood Pattern

We will start with the first picture, beige stucco. With the picture active, from the edit menu, select Define Pattern.

Define Pattern

At the define pattern dialog box enter a name for the pattern and click OK. I called mine Beige Stucco.

Name Pattern

Continue with the other three pictures, assigning them names that are meaningful for you.

I want to save my patterns permanently so I need to take one more step otherwise when you load a different pattern set your pattern will be lost. To save your pattern permanently, click Edit and select Preset Manager:

Preset Manager

At the Preset Manager dialog box select Patterns as your Preset Type, then select the patterns you just saved from the drop-down resets list. Press Ctrl + Click to select more than one pattern. You should have four selected as shown below:

Select Patterns

Click Save Set. In the Save window, browse to select a location for the pattern set, enter a name, and click save.

Now we will return to our Photoshop Drawing Basics tutorial.
