Choose a Document Theme Then Customize It and Save it as a Custom Theme Grading Rubric
Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 provides several standard, prebuilt themes. Find a standard theme that has a look that you like, and then modify it by changing the colors, the fonts, or the line and fill effects. You can then save it as your very own custom theme.
Open PowerPoint 2010 (Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office > PowerPoint 2010).
Save the presentation with the name The Simpsons.
Choose a Prebuilt Theme
To choose a document theme, with the Design tab selected, in the Themes group choose a theme that you feel would compliment your presentation. To see all the themes available click the more arrow. As you roll over the themes with your mouse it will display how it will look on the slide. Choose one by clicking on it.

I choose Oriel as shown below:

Change Theme Colors
On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Colors, and then drag over the different color choices available. As you scroll, your design colors will change on the slide. Choose a different color theme for your selected slide design. The colors inside the Colors button
represent the theme applied to your presentation. I choose the Waveform:

My slide now looks like this with the Waveform theme applied. Yours will look different depending on the design and color theme chosen.

Change Theme Fonts
To change the theme fonts, on the Design tab, in the Themes group, click Fonts
, and then click Create New Theme Fonts.

In the Heading font and Body font boxes, select the fonts that you want to use. Select a font to your liking, I selected Comic Sans MS. 3.In the Name box, type an appropriate name for the new theme fonts, and then click Save.

You don't need to worry about the effects and background styles at this time.
Save the Theme
Save the changes that you make to the colors and fonts of an existing theme so that you can apply it to other documents or presentations.
On the Design tab, in the Themes group, click More.

Click Save Current Theme.

In the File name box, type Simpson Presentation for the theme name , and then click Save.
Tip: The revised theme is saved as a .thmx file in the Document Themes folder on your local drive and it is automatically added to the list of custom themes on the Design tab in the Themes group.

Save your document.
